Week 1 of the NFL is upon us…
The start of the
NFL season is comparable to the start of the Holiday season in the U.S.
Obviously, many significant others dread the fact that their other half will be
embarking on a 4 ½ month binge of unhealthy food and lounging in ones favorite
couch or chair. In the South the start of the NFL (and college season for that
matter) has been a sort of psychological boost because it usually means that
the long hot dog days of Summer are nearing an end and maybe, just maybe if you
are lucky (depending on where you live) you may just get a nice cool front to
whet your appetite a bit. I wish it were that way here in Texas but, as I type
this on the day before the start of the NFL season it was 102 degrees today.
Yes…September 4th. 102. that is Texas for you.
32 teams and their
fans have that wonderful thing called hope as of right now. Next week at this
time, 16 of those teams and fans will be wondering what went wrong. There are
so many storylines going into this season. Can the Giants repeat? Will Tom
Brady and the Patriots ever hoist the Lombardi Trophy again? Will Tony Romo
ever get over the hump? Will the Saints bounce back from “Bounty Gate”? How
will the new crop of rookie QB’s fare? RGIII or Andrew Luck? Will we ever see regular
refs again? And many many more.
It all begins tomorrow night and I am very excited to get
the season kicked off. Here are my Week 1 picks:
(Please note, I only pick what I believe will be the outcome
and final score of a game. I just try to keep it simple and fun)
Dallas 24 New York Giants 20 (Is this actually the year
where Tony Romo silences his critics? I have a funny feeling it is. But, that doesn't mean I am picking the Cowboys to go to the Superbowl. Both teams
are very banged up in key positions)
Chicago 27 Indianapolis 13
Philadelphia 34 Cleveland 13
Detroit 20 St. Louis 13
New England 21 Tennessee 14
Kansas City 24 Atlanta 21
Minnesota 20 Jacksonville 17
New Orleans 24 Washington 23
Buffalo 17 New York Jets 14
Houston 24 Miami 9
San Francisco 21 Green Bay 17
Seattle 13 Arizona 10
Tampa Bay 21 Carolina 20
Denver 23 Pittsburgh 20
Baltimore 20 Cincinnati 14
San Diego 24 Oakland 20
